A lot of my interests have to do with the construction of spaces, and the arts and concepts thereof. But this story from Haaretz (http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/.premium-1.539057) reminds one about the evacuation of spaces and human rights abuse and violation of international law. The idea is that the army is going to evacuate a couple thousand Palestinian villages in the hills south of Hebron in the West Bank. The point is to make things more convenient for the soldiers at a nearby firing base. These sad and pathetic little nakbas seem so cruelly gratuitous, and I more than suspect that they are a deep thread in the system by which the state constitutes itself.
Yawn.
maybe a yawn, but sometimes it’s the little things that get to me. like the 5 yr. old arrested by the army, or the bagele seller at Yaffo Gate who was almost sent to prison for 10 yrs for not paying fees or something. no big thing. meaningless at the macro level, but petty and mean nonetheless.
Yes, sometimes Israelis do bad things. Meanwhile, 30km from where you sit (complaining with worldhistoric pretense about harassed bagel-sellers and children placed in army custody for 90 minutes) there’s a real Nakba going on. And neither you, not any other liberal, gives a damn. I wonder why? The hypocrisy is mind-numbing–almost enough to make me believe in God!

no need to apologize. i’ve found it frustrating as well. and when i used words like :small,” petty,” and “mean” to describe Israel’s occupation in the WB, i really did mean it quasi technically, aware very much of the difference of scale. but the disaster up north and chaos down south don’t make the occupation any less “small,” “petty,” and “mean,” and maybe even more so. best to you, and please feel free to keep posting critical pushback. i take almost nothing personally.
