Carl Schurz Defender of Liberty

Carl Schurz joined the German Revolution of 1848, and then emigrated to the United States where he became a very important person in the Republican Party of Lincoln. Anti-slavery and anti-imperialist, his record on Native American affairs remained more mixed. Here he is in Morningside Drive and W.116th St., facing Columbia University with Harlem down below and behind him. I like the rage, the furrowed brow and clenched fist.

Why is his statue in Morningside Park instead of Carl Schurz Park at the East River?
