Red, white and gold, Downtown Baptist Church on Malcom X at the corner with W.131st Street is a small little place. You can zoom in up close and still fit almost the entire thing into the frame of an ordinary digital photograph. Close up, the color scheme looks purposeful. Under the gold crucifix form, the bright red door and two little gothic-style window frames are set in a blaze of white.
And the door looks like a face. I feel a bit off-kilter looking at these tilted photographs. Like you became, like Spinoza, drunk with God.
My Mom hates the titled shots, but I like them, I do it because the tilt allows me to get more “information” into a tight shot.
