(Lost and Adrift) Sleepwalker (Tony Matelli)

Even as we now speak, Tony Matelli’s Sleepwalker  (2014) is making his way up and down the Highline as part of a group show. I passed him by without even noticing, and then turned, startled. I saw him the day before the election of Donald Trump in what turns out to have been something like an anticipation. Made out of painted bronze, he is described  as lost and drift in the world. I’m curious, though, about the pronouns one might want to use for such a hyper-realistic sculpture. Plenty of passerby interacted with him physically. I got up close, not sure at first if this was a live actor. I did not want to touch it.
