Radical Sociology & Real Estate Development (Vladimir Lenin in New York)

When I first saw it, I naturally assumed it was an old relic from the heyday of 1920s New York Jewish socialism. Apparently not and even better, as explained here. Dour Comrade Lenin sits atop the luxurious “Red Square Apartments” on East Houston Street between Avenues A and B. I’m never sure what to make of him, usually when driving  by on the way to the FDR. I like the time-worn character lent by the smudgy white clock face. How many people under 40 know who this guy is? Cultural icon? despicable monster? conspicuous consumption? How to “tag” this here at the blog? “Architecture,” not “politics.”
