Antisemitism Panel At New School Live Tweets

the-new-school-nyc-s180713-j2

For anyone interested, here’s my live tweets from the Antisemitism Panel at the New School. As best I know, the world did not end. The genuine (as opposed to bogus) hoopla leading up the event was that the panelists were not equipped to deal with a complex and multi-faceted phenomenon, but I will say that Leo Ferguson was genuinely thoughtful and Lina Morales had an interesting moment where she voiced criticism of “the movement.” But there was little to be learned about antisemitism at a panel hosted by a university. About that the critics were right, but no damage done. Whatever you already thought you would have left still thinking. The greatest problem with the event was that all questions from the audience were written on index cards and pre-screened. While i understood the perceived need to control the crazies, so much for open discussion. As it was, there was only one disruption, and this from a man complaining about the silencing of the direct audience voice  I tried to keep my commentary to a minimum. The live tweets below start from the bottom.

  1. dmf says:

panels are generally a terrible format, too many voices too little time/space for dealing with complexity, one of many academic formats in need of reform that seem to go without notice/fixing.
