Watching amateur hour unravel in full public view, that the so-called Deal of the Century was cooked up by 3 rightwing modern orthodox Jews will have to be raised at some point. Of course, we’re playing with fire, which is precisely why you don’t want to mix religion and politics, and how doing so puts people at risk.

Too many peace plans have failed and would likely fail under any circumstance that pinning it to the modern Orthodoxy of the architects of this one seems like overreach. Still, maybe sobering for those who thought RW MO had some kind of exceptionalism to succeed where so many others fail. Not that it deserved that reputation if it ever had it.
so you do think the Deal of the Century is a RW MO plan? Just not sure why anyone thought it had a snowball’s chance to begin with
I only know what has been speculated about the deal in the media but from the sounds of it it’s a RW MO fantasy of a resolution to the conflict that requires no hard compromises and essentially buys off Palestinian irredentism. If I were inclined to over read RW MO into the plan I might note that the idea that money can fix these problems and assumption that everyone just wants a comfortable Western bourgeois lifestyle is precisely the kind of fallacy you might expect from someone like Kushner. Tho tbf that’s maybe more an expectation I’d have from liberal MO’s in my milieu whereas the right does often recognize motivations beyond the financial. That’s why trying to fit these psychological profiles based on generalizations about large ideologically diverse groups is not super productive imo.
all these plans are based on liberal projections about what people want. the idea that the previous (professional) negotiators were not rank amateurs defies their continuous (and continuously disastrous) failures.
so am curious what you think of Kushner, not a liberal, who is, in fact, a rank amateur. One could argue that Israel is better off with Oslo than it would have been without it
how wd one argue that? thousands dead in the intifada. huge rift btw palestinians and israelis. generation of pn children poisoned by the genocidal hatred of PATV and schools, hatred of Israel the world over.
what were the benefits?
as for Kushner I don’t know enuf. it does seem to me he’s not prisoner of the folly of positive-sum pn political class. maybe a prisoner of the “Marshall Plan” solution. calling him a rank amateur, hv, suggests that the previous negotiators were professionals. which they were not.
