There’s more than sound and fury at a State Fair. There’s also brute animal existence, solidarity and sleepiness. Cows are always together. I like these Brown Swiss late at night at the cowshed at the New York State Fair, and the way they fill the visual field with warm, soft color, different shades of bovine brown nestled into each other. We love them, we milk them, we eat them, we love them. The animal sheds at the State Fair are incredibly gentle places, the occupy a gentle circle, set in an ungentle space.
