The Wonders of America (Thanksgiving Hannukah 2013 or Cranberry Turkey Doughnuts)

Marshmallow-Donut TurkeyCranberry

I don’t think anywhere near enough attention goes to the understanding the importance of food in religion-consumer culture. But really, almost all things are possible, in America, or at least in New York City. You need to know where to look and whom to ask. I sent out on FB a query about cranberry doughnuts, and was sent this lead by a friend to this Thanksgiving-Hannukah special at Zucker Bakery on E. 9th St. As someone who likes a lot the doughnut burger at the New York State Fair, I think I’m going to try these sweet-savory fusions –cranberry doughnuts, cranberry turkey doughnuts, turkey gravy doughnuts, spiced pumpkin doughnut with turkey-gravy filling, marshmallow doughnuts. All my academic friends are in Baltimore talking about religion at the AAR, while I’m busy planning to eat it.
