Would someone please tell Students for Justice in Palestine that it’s really not all right to post material on their Tumblr page from neo-Nazi and White Nationalist websites or Nazi SS propaganda poster art? Interestingly enough, the image they took, Kultur-Terror, is actually more anti-American, and in this that means anti-black in addition to anti-Semitic. But it hardly matters. The students for justice in Palestine at Vassar are clearly in over their heads. Rebecca Lesses has been all over this story. You can read here her post about this particular image. It includes interesting scholarly material on the image and its provenance. I’m (not) sure anti-Semitism has nothing to do with the kind of unhinging that happens when you polarize your politics. They’ve since sort-of-apologized. But even looked at in the most generous way, the entire incident suggests very poor judgment and not a lot of intelligence over at Vassar SJP.
