Albert-Alberta, Hubert’s Forty-second Street Flea Circus (Lisette Model)

Lisette Model, Albert-Alberta, Hubert’s Forty-second Street Flea Circus, (c. 1945).

I’ve been admiring this photograph since seeing it, now for the third time, on view at the Whitney Museum. It’s part the inaugural exhibition at the new site of the permanent collection, America is Hard to See. I think it’s the kind face and exposed quality of the sitter.

For more on Hubert’s, you can see here.
