Photography & Painting (The Weinfeld Family) (Frédéric Brenner)

107

In the Weinfeld Family (2009), Frédéric Brenner collapses photography and painting across multiple registers. Panning out, [1] paintings of rabbis and rabbinic tables hang over the family scene, [2] the pater familias himself looks very much like one of those painted figures, [3] as does the entire family assembled for a group portrait around the long table when viewed from a distance and then re-photographed here in the image I took for this blog post. The children look absolutely furious.
