The End?

wow

A staunch rightwinger, Ya’alon was the last or perhaps second to last human being in the government. With Avigdor Lieberman joining the coalition and taking control of the Defense Ministry, this is now the most most most rightwing government in the history of Israel. Is this the point where mainstream American Jews begin to finally walk away from Israel? It might depend upon the formation of a robust parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition,  but it’s hard to see. It would probably take the resignation of Kahalon and his Kulanu party from Finance and from the government. Whatever is left of the humanist tradition and universalist values in the Zionist tradition has completely shredded. It’s hard to imagine what American Jews will continue to see there. Or will liberal Jews continue to hold their friends and family and their values close. Like Zeno’s paradox, you keep nearing the end of the end of the end of the rope.
